  1. A little early for the april fools joke, huh evan?
  2. I am starting to second guess myself. I think the problem was Foreflight and FSX GPS showed 1 track, and the controller saw me 10 degrees off. With that said, can someone clarify? within FSX, do the controllers see what my planes mag heading is, or what my ground track is?
  3. I did not know this. Thanks for that info. But yes, this still does not explain the 10 degree track difference between FSX and Foreflight.
  4. I want to troubleshoot this more with Evan when he's on Center one night, but has anyone else encountered anything like this? In FSX using default or add-on GPS, it's not hard to figure out what your Ground Track is. (your course heading along the ground) I also utilize my iPad foreflight app hooked wirelessly to my FSX through FSXConnect. It has always worked well, and I've never noticed the ground track to NOT be coincident when in straight and level flight. After doing all these updates, I was flying in-server with ATC on, and getting vectored for an ILS. I kept getting heading changes from ATC (more than usual) and that made me wonder if I was off somewhere. I usually use ground track to make heading changes when vectored by ATC as to remove any possible problems with wind drift. So I looked at my ground track on foreflight, and cross-referenced it with the GNS 430 in cockpit, and it was a full 10 degrees off. Why would my fsx, which i just updated to the most recent MagVar correction, not be coincident with foreflight all of a sudden?
  5. I recently did this with a friend from KLOU to 8D4. We are mostly sane. We did have two iPads with GPS and ADSB on board. He was selling his plane to a guy up in Michigan and he invited me to tag along with him up there to deliver the plane, then drive a rental back. We were below 3000 AGL the whole way, and only used Flight Following to get through the KAZO and KGRR airspace. Ceilings were around 4500' and the temperature was 15F, with lots of little snow showers we got to dart between. It was an absolute blast. But COLD! Wagoneer Sportsman 2X2 with no heat in that cold temps... good thing we are both big guys, our body heat helped. I'd enjoy seeing an event like this in BVA occasionally. Would be a fun challenge.
  6. Louisville Kentucky has a great aviation community. A week before the Kentucky derby (Saturday May 4th 2013) we have a derby Kick-off festival. There is a HUMONGOUS airshow followed by one of the worlds largest fireworks shows. A search on YouTube for Thunder Over Louisville will give you an idea of what it's like. More than a million people are on the banks of the Ohio river separating Louisville Kentucky from Jeffersonville Indiana. My father has been the FAA coordinator for the past 10 years and still continues with it, and because of that I get a great sneak peak into each years airshow. For up to a week ahead of Thunder, then through the Kentucky Derby its self, the local municipal airport KLOU is a sight to be seen. It swarms with all kinds of private jets, personal GA family aircraft, as well as hundreds of aircraft military and civilian alike that are participating in the air show. Though not remarkable, Louisville has it's own unique airspace as well. KSDF is the international airport and one of the main hubs for UPS's air fleet. Tucked into a wedge of the class C airspace around KSDF, is a small class D airport KLOU. Having such close towered airports together makes for interesting ATC handoffs when approaching KLOU from the west. This is my own little slice of home, and I have been flying here for 15 years. I thought it would be neat to see this as an event, perhaps even around the actual KY Derby. KLOU does not have an ILS, which could challenge some of us that do not get much experience with VOR approaches. The big birds flying into KSDF would have all the things they are used to there. There is also an uncontrolled field just to the north, KJVY, which has an ILS. And for the military minded folks, Goodman Army Airfield KFTK is right down the road to the southwest. Fort Knox Kentucky. Watch out, there are some Restricted areas around there. Must protect all that gold! Just thought I'd throw that out there and see if anyone else would like to see a fly in event at this location.
