Title: Speakers & Headset?
Post by: Mark Mayo on October 16, 2018, 04:12:27 pm
Question:

Does anyone know a way to be able to hear ATC communications thru speakers attached to the computer while the headset/mic is plugged into USB on the computer?

I generally do not need (or even presently own) speakers for my "flying" computer.... I only use my headset. But I will be having someone staying w/us for a couple of weeks who really likes the online flying experience - and I'd love to have them be able to hear the communications.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Mark, USB headsets are recognized by Windows as their own audio device.  So all you need to do is connect a set of speakers to you and tell your client to use your USB headset as the input, and computer speakers as the output.  It's very simple.  Give it a go!

What Don said but with visual (approach).

1. Right click the speaker icon on the taskbar.
2. Choose Sounds.
3. In the "Output" tab find the device you want to output to and right click on it.
4. Set as default device.

I believe he is asking how to direct VATSIM ATC audio to the speakers ... this is done in the pilot client settings, not in Windows sound settings.

Mark, as Ross said, if you go into the vPilot settings, you'll find the audio tab:

Just choose the speakers (instead of your headset) and ATC audio will be played through that device instead of the headset. You can change that setting on the fly (so to speak) too.
