Getting Started on VATSIM
« on: August 14, 2015, 06:07:56 pm »
In the summer of 2015, Boston Virtual ATC and VATSIM's ZBW ARTCC came together to form Boston Virtual ARTCC. The migration was termed "Project Vector", and took place over several months earlier this year. On August 15, 2015, all Boston Virtual ARTCC flight and ATC operations began taking place on VATSIM.

For members who are returning to the community after an absence, or who are unaware of Project Vector, this thread will help orient you to VATSIM and get connected to our new community for the first time.

If you don't already have one, the first step is to create a VATSIM account. To do so:
  • Ensure you do not have an existing VATSIM account. If you do, you can re-activate it online. Do not create multiple accounts.
  • If you know you don't have an existing account, create a new one here.
  • Note your ID (this is akin to your BVA Username) and automatically-generated password. You'll need them when connecting to the network.
Once you have your account, visit BVA's Getting Started Guide to walk through the steps required to connect to the network. Most members will have already completed Section 1 when they first joined, and so can start with Section 2 (First-Time Setup). Section 2 covers setup and configuration that you only have to do once. After that, Section 3 covers the steps required to actually connect to the network and file a flight plan.
